A 17-year-old Adivasi girl was allegedly gangraped by a suspected autorickshaw driver and his accomplice, reportedly near Konta along the Chhattisgarh-Andhra Pradesh border on Friday night and abandoned at Jagannadhapuram in Palvancha mandal of Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Saturday.
The girl was found on the roadside and was immediately shifted to a local hospital by the passersby. She was subsequently sheltered in the State-run home in Kothagudem, sources added.
Palvancha rural police have registered an FIR against unknown persons based on the complaint filed by the rape survivor. Sources said the incident occurred when the girl was on her way to her parents’ home in a tribal habitation in Chinturu from her relative’s house near Konta in Chhattisgarh.
She was allegedly whisked away by an autorickshaw driver who, along with his accomplice, raped her at a secluded place in the forest area after giving her a soft drink mixed with sedatives. She was abandoned on the roadside near Peddamma temple in Palvancha rural mandal by the accused on Saturday.
According to police sources, the sexual assault did not take place under the jurisdiction of Bhadradri Kothagudem district police.
Palvancha police have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the exact place where the incident took place and identify the accused based on the rape survivor’s statement.
