The Annamayya district police on Monday solved the murder case of a 45-year-old woman, whose charred body was found at the Devalampeta reserve forest on August 5. Addressing a press conference here, Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Vidyasagar Naidu announced the arrest of an accused in the case.
The SP said that the area Village Revenue Officer (VRO) had lodged a complaint about the incident on August 18, following which a case was registered under suspicious death, which was later altered to a murder case. The deceased was identified as M. Sridevi (27) of Ponnetipalem in Madanapalle Rural mandal.
Preliminary probe disclosed that Guriginjakunta Shivaprasad Naidu (30) of Sundupalli mandal in the district, had developed intimacy with Sridevi a few years ago. Financial disputes and an alleged threat to expose the affair between them forced him to kill her. On August 5, he strangled the woman with her sari before setting the body on fire. Later, he mortgaged the jewellery belonging to the deceased for ₹1.5 lakhs.
The SP said that forensic evidence, CCTV footage, and mobile technology led to the arrest.
