A three-day training on seaweed and sea cage farming to fishers and fisheries officials from Puducherry and Karaikal district was held at the Mandapam Regional Centre of ICAR-CMFRI from June 18 to 20.
The programme was inaugurated by K. T. Gopinath, Deputy Director of Fisheries. The Mandapam Regional Centre of ICAR-CMFRI and Principal scientist Vinod K presided. G Tamilmani, Principal Scientist G Tamilmani offered felicitation.
The valedictory address was delivered by M. Sivakumar and he distributed the certificates to the participants. A total of 18 fisherwomen, two fishermen and four fisheries officials from Puducherry and Karaikal district participated.. They were imparted hands on experience on bamboo raft method and tube-net method of seaweed farming, orientation on sea cage farming, preparation of HDPE cages and among others. Afield trip to a seaweed and sea cage farm and seaweed processing unit was also arranged, the officials said.
