Panaji: The police booked the 50-year-old father of a minor boy who died in a road accident. The man, residing in the Bardez taluka and a native of Uttar Pradesh, was booked by the police for permitting his minor son to ride a scooter even though the 16-year-old did not hold a valid motor driving licence.The accident occurred on June 19 near Bhagwati Temple at Aldona when the scooter the deceased teen was riding collided with a school bus.“The child in conflict with law (CCL) rode the scooter without proper care and caution and in a rash and negligent manner, endangering human life. When he approached a curve near Bhagwati Temple at Carona, Aldona, he rode the scooter to the extreme right side of the road and dashed against an oncoming school bus that was proceeding from Aldona towards Calvim via Carona,” the police report stated.

The accident caused grievous injuries to the minor boy, who died while undergoing treatment at the GMC, police sub-inspector Abhijit Naik said.Subsequently, the father was booked on June 24 by the Mapusa police for permitting his minor son to ride a scooter on busy, major roads in and around Aldona without holding a valid motor driving licence. “This reckless action had the potential to cause serious injuries or even death to commuters using these major roads,” the police said.
