AP SFI Leaders Advocate for Dual Major System in Degree Courses

Leaders of the Student Federation of India (SFI) on Sunday appealed to the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) to retain the dual major system in undergraduate degree programmes.

In a statement, SFI State president P. Rammohan and secretary K. Prasanna Kumar criticised the council for what they described as “a new policy every day,” and termed the reversal of the dual major system—after it was initially approved—as “irresponsible.” The move, they said, has caused widespread confusion among students.

The student leaders also came down heavily on HRD Minister Nara Lokesh for allegedly continuing policies similar to those of the previous government. They demanded a reduction in the burden of internships, an increase in credit points for minor subjects, and the provision of stipends and safety measures for students undertaking internships, in collaboration with relevant industries.

Delay in admission process

Taking strong exception to the delay in launching the offline admission process, the SFI leaders pointed out that Intermediate results were declared over three months ago. They warned of launching an agitation if the government failed to act on their demands.
