A KSRTC driver-cum-conductor on Monday allegedly attempted to end his life at the Belur bus depot over harassment at the workplace.
Harish, a native of Kotiganahalli in Belur taluk, was reportedly found suffocating at the restroom in the morning. His colleagues shifted him to the hospital.
It was said that he was upset as the depot manager did not allot him work on the day.
Following the incident, the KSRTC employees staged a protest, raising slogans against the depot manager and other officials. They alleged that the officials have harassed conductors and drivers at the workplace, and were subjected to disciplinary action for flimsy reasons.
BJP MLA for Belur H.K. Suresh visited the depot and interacted with the workers.
Speaking to reporters, he said that he often received complaints from the workers against the officials. The problem had not been resolved even after he brought the issue to the notice of senior officials in the corporation, the MLA said.
Mr. Harish was under treatment at the district hospital in Hassan.
