A 38-year-old Trinamool Congress leader was killed at Bhangar in South Parganas district of West Bengal on Thursday (July 10, 2025) night. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the murder.
The victim, Rajjak Khan, was an area president of the Trinamool and an associate of party MLA Saukat Molla. The party has blamed the India Secular Front (ISF) for the crime.
According to reports, Khan was shot multiple times and his throat was slit. He was killed while returning home from a party meeting. The incident occurred in the Chaltaberia area of Bhangar, which comes under the jurisdiction of the Kolkata Police.
After the crime came to light, Mr. Molla blamed it on ISF, which in turn said it was the result of an internal feud between Trinamool members.
Speaking to mediapersons, Commissioner of Kolkata Police Manoj Kumar Verma said: “Rajjak Khan was murdered between 9.30 p.m and 10 p.m. on Thursday night. The exact cause will be known after the investigation.” The police are yet to reveal the identity of those arrested in connection with the murder.
Khan’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
“Criminals, who had been given shelter by the ISF, killed Khan. They are losing political relevance every day, and that is why they have resorted to such criminal activities,” Mr. Molla said.
Speaking to mediapersons, the victim’s brother, Ishaque Khan, said that the murder could be due to political rivalry. “He was first shot and then stabbed. I am not sure who the assailants were.”
Reacting to the development, BJP State president Samik Bhattacharya said: “Those getting killed are Trinamool men and those who are killing are also from the same party.”
Bhangar has been a hotspot of violence on multiple occasions and was recently brought under the jurisdiction of the Kolkata Police.
