Man Abused and Held in Chains; Two Arrested in Vijayapura

A man was illegally detained and chained to an iron pole for not turning up for work in Vijayapura district and the police have arrested two persons after the incident came to light through social media.

Superintendent of Police of Vijayapura Laxman Nimbargi has given the names of the arrested as Kumar alias Arjun Siddoda Biradar of Chadachan and Srishail Giriyappa Peergond of Umrani in Vijayapura district.

The incident took place at Hattalli village, where the victim, Bashasab Allauddin Mulla, 38, was chained to a pole by the accused on July 18.

According to the police, Bashasab had reportedly taken ₹20,000 as an advance for serving as a driver but did not turn up for work immediately. As he reportedly delayed returning the money, Mr. Kumar and Mr. Srishail forcefully brought him on their motorcycle to Hattalli village.

Subsequently, he was chained to the pole in front of a shop from morning till evening and also abused by the duo for not returning the amount.
