SpaceX Targets 365 Starships a Year with New Gigafactory Expansion
Quick Summary:
- SpaceX is constructing a new facility, Gigabay, at Boca Chica designed for large-scale production and refurbishment of Starships and Super Heavy vehicles.
- The Gigabay will have 380 feet in height, offering 46.5 million cubic feet of processing space including 815,000 square feet of workspace with capacity for 24-30 work cells.
- Compared to the existing Megabay facilities at Starbase, it increases operational space by more than eleven times while adding 19 extra work cells.
- Construction began in February 2022 with phases being completed through to its expected full activation by late 2026. By then, SpaceX could scale production to around 20-50 Starships annually.
- The long-term goal is producing one Starship per day (approximately 365 per year), possibly achievable between late-stage factory alignment (2027) through mass-synchronized phased synchronization roles/demand expansion achieving high-later aggressively aspect optimizations
