A reading corner dedicated to Anna Chandy, the first woman judge of a High Court in the country, was inaugurated at the Kerala Judicial Academy, Athany, on Monday.
B. R. Gavai, Chief Justice of India, inaugurated the facility, which was set up with the support of Goa Governor P. S. Sreedharan Pillai.
The reading corner has a well-stocked collection of legal literature, which could be utilised by legal researchers. Books worth ₹10 lakh were recently added to the library, said A. K. Jayasankaran Nambiar, Judge, High Court of Kerala, who is also president of the governing body of the Academy.
Mr. Gavai also launched the academy’s research wing and digital facilities. He released the annual report of the institution by handing over a copy of the report to Dr. Nambiar.
The academy is in the process of upgrading the digital learning platform for the learners, which includes the judicial officers of Kerala and legal researchers. The academy had been imparting legal training to judicial officers of other States too, he said.
The academy has approached the State government seeking six posts of legal researchers, who will support the preparation of research and training materials for the learners, said Mr. Nambiar.
The governing board members, D. K. Singh, V. G. Arun, K. Babu and Kauser Edappagath, who are also the judges of the High Court, K. N. Sujith, Director of the academy, Deputy Director John Varghese and Assistant Director Ann Thania Alex were also present.
