Driver arrested from Goa for stealing jewellery from owner’s car in GK

The Delhi police have arrested a driver from Goa for allegedly stealing diamond jewellery worth ₹16 lakh, along with some cash from his employer’s car in Greater Kailash, south Delhi, an officer said on Friday.

The accused, Induluri Ranga Reddy, 43, was working as a driver for the complainant for four months, and he had been observing her routine before carrying out the theft, the officer said.

A PCR call was received on March 24 at Greater Kailash police station regarding the theft of jewellery from a locked car parked in front of Pahadi Wala Gurudwara in GK-I.

Along with the jewellery, the complainant reported that ₹1.3 lakh in cash had also been stolen. A case was registered, and Mr. Reddy was found missing. His phone was too switched off.

The accused was caught in Goa, where he allegedly confessed to the crime and was brought back to Delhi. He revealed that he had been living in Gurugram before moving to Delhi in search of a job.

After the theft, he allegedly fled to the airport, bought a ticket to Goa from the stolen money and spent the remaining amount at a casino.

Police have recovered stolen jewellery, including a diamond necklace and a pair of diamond earrings, and Rs 50,000 in cash from him.
