Elaborate security arrangements will be in place for Dasara

Elaborate security arrangements will be in place for the Dasara festivities scheduled to be held in Mysuru from September 22 to October 2.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar said necessary measures have been taken to not only maintain law and order and ensure no untoward incident takes place at the different venues of Dasara programmes, but also to facilitate smooth movement of traffic in and around the venues.

Under its two-phase security arrangements – first phase between September 22 and 29 and the second phase between September 30 and October 2 – 6,384 civil and traffic police personnel, 35 platoons of KSRP, 15 platoons of CAR and DAR, one unit each of Garuda force and Rapid Action Force (RAF), a 29-member Anti Sabotage Check (ASC) team, besides 1,200 Home Guards will be deployed at the various Dasara programme venues.

The security arrangements will cover inaugural programme at Chamundi Hills, cultural programmes at Mysuru, Dasara Exhibition, Wrestling competition, Flower Show, Food Mela, Book Fair, Illumination, Yuva Dasara, Air Show, Jumbo Savari, and Torch Light parade at Bannimantap grounds.

As many as 26 ambulances and 32 fire tenders and their teams will be stationed at different venues of Dasara programmes, including Mysuru palace premises on the day of Jumbo Savari, near the gates of Mysuru palace, at prominent spots along the route of Dasara procession, at Bannimantap grounds during Torch Light parade, etc.

About 43 public address systems manned by traffic police personnel will be set up at all prominent junctions of the city and tourist destinations between September 22 and October 1 to maintain traffic.

On the day of Jumbo Savari on October 2, 33 such public address systems with civil police personnel will be in place near all the gates of Mysuru palace and the route of Dasara procession.

The police will set up help desks at 12 locations to assist the general public, including tourists visiting the city.

The help desks will be set up at Babu Jagjivan Ram Circle near City Railway station, Varaha Gate of Mysuru palace, K.R. Circle, St. Philomena’s Church, Suburban bus stand, Gandhi Square, Mysuru zoo, Main entrance of Dasara Exhibition, Manipal Hospital Junction, Nanjangud Road-Ring Road junction, Deve Gowda Circle, and Hootagalli junction on Hunsur Road.

The police personnel manning the help desks will assist the general public with information on Dasara programmes, one-way traffic, and parking arrangements. If the public have to lodge serious complaints, they will be referred to the jurisdictional police station, the Police Commissioner said.

The police had also brought out booklet containing information on the measures to be taken by the general public to ensure their safety and security.

Deputy Commissioners of Police Sundar Raj and Bindu Mani were also present on the occasion.
