Minister for Finance Payyavula Keshav on Monday inaugurated drinking water scheme in Uravakonda, providing protected drinking water to every household in the town.

The scheme was taken up at a cost of ₹16.35 crore from Udiripikonda in Kuderu mandal to Uravakonda. Inaugurating the scheme at the Rural Water Supply (RWS) here, Mr. Keshav said that he had promised, before the elections, to resolve the 30-year-old issue of lack of drinking water provision in Uravakonda town. “I have now fulfilled by promise,” he said.

The Minister said, “The previous government had failed to lay even a metre pipeline to provide water in its five year tenure. We have spend around ₹17 crore to supply drinking water and it is a sort of record that the works that started on January 1 this year were completed in just six months”.

Mr. Keshav further said that his focus is sanitation and he would also take up issues like house sites to the poor and construction of houses among other things. “We will also set up an Anna Canteen in Uravakonda. Much more needs to be done for developing Uravakonda and we will develop the town with the support of the people,” he added.

Later, Mr. Keshav inspected land for constructing a new vegetable market at CVV Nagar and also land for constructing a new Anna Canteen in the town.
