The low conviction rate for human trafficking cases in Andhra Pradesh raises important concerns regarding both systemic failures within justice mechanisms and insufficient support for victims. As identified by multiple NGOs cited here,gaps such as inadequate monitoring of traffickers’ activities-especially on social media-and ineffective operations of specialized units like AHTUs are key barriers to combating trafficking effectively.
Improving training for investigating officers along with empowering victim-centric processes could increase accountability through focused enforcement measures. Additionally, addressing underlying socio-economic vulnerabilities exploited by traffickers may reduce instances altogether. Collaborative measures across government agencies could catalyze change but would require sustained commitment at both policy-making and grassroots levels.
