A lift facility at the Marudhamalai Subramanya Swamy Temple in Coimbatore, constructed at a cost of ₹5.20 crore, will be inaugurated in August, said P.K. Sekarbabu, Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, on Sunday.
The Minister reviewed ongoing lift installation works at Marudhamalai, the proposed site for a 184-foot-tall Murugan statue in the foothills, and the location in Vadavalli where a new polytechnic college is planned.
The Minister later told reporters that a master plan was being prepared for the statue project, which would also address traffic management at the temple foothills.
According to HR&CE officials, one of the two planned lifts has been installed, and trial runs have been completed. The second lift will be installed soon. Each lift, with a capacity of 20 people, will operate in a single direction—one for ascent and the other for descent. Priority will be given to senior citizens and persons with disabilities. The lift will cover a height of 17.1 metres from the parking area at the base to the temple.
Officials also said a dedicated bus stand-cum-parking facility is planned on eight acres at the foothills for use by Devasthanam buses and other vehicles visiting the temple.
Earlier in the day, the Minister presided over consecration of the Arulmigu Mariamman and Periya Vinayagar temples in Coimbatore district.
He inaugurated several completed infrastructure works at the Perur Pateeswarar Temple. These include a tarpanam mandapam constructed at ₹11.84 crore, an annadanam hall built at ₹5 lakh, a go shala at ₹55 lakh, a cement road laid at ₹16.30 lakh, and a workers’ restroom constructed at ₹11.70 lakh.
