A 25-year-old woman from Manikonda was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man she had befriended on Instagram, after meeting him in person for the first time on Tuesday night, July 29.
The accused, identified as Siddareddy, a 32-year-old businessman, was arrested by the Balanagar police and remanded to judicial custody on Wednesday.
According to police, the woman, a software professional, had been in contact with Siddareddy on Instagram for about a month. On the night of July 29, she was invited by him to his room in Balanagar under the pretext of celebrating her birthday. During the meeting, the two consumed alcohol together, following which the accused sexually assaulted her.
The woman regained consciousness in the early hours of Wednesday and, realising what had happened, immediately dialled 100 for help. At around 4.15 a.m., a police patrol vehicle reached the spot, rescued the victim and took the accused into custody.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
