NTR District Medical and Health Officer M. Suhasini and a team of doctors inspected the Universal Srusthi Fertility and Research Centre, located near Benz Circle in Vijayawada on Monday (July 28, 2025).
With the police registering a case under child trafficking and surrogacy racket against the fertility centre in Hyderabad, the police and the district officers inspected the centre.
As the centre was closed and the board was removed in front of the hospital, the DM&HO questioned why the board was removed and the doctors and other staff were absent.
The team comprising of District Project Monitoring Officer Dr. P. Naveen, Head of the Department, (HoD-Radiology) Dr. Parvatheeswara Rao, HoD (Pathology) Dr. Vijaya Sri, HoD (Gynaecology) Dr. Keshava Chandra and other officers inspected Srusthi Fertility and Research Centre.
“The centre was closed suddenly and no staff were present. We summoned, Embryologist Y. Kishore Babu, and verified the registration and some records,” the DM&HO told The Hindu.
During inquiry, it was found that the management of the centre obtained permission from the government for running a health care centre under the name ‘Universal Health Care Services’, but was running the fertility centre, Dr. Suhasini, who verified some case sheets, said.
“We could not take up thorough inspection as no specialists, administrative officer, manager and technical staff were present, and the labs were found locked,” the DM&HO said, adding that a report would be submitted to the district Collector on the situation in the fertility and research centre.
Central Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police K. Damodar and Machavaram CI Ch. Prakash inspected the fertility centre.
“Police are inquiring on the activities of the fertility centre,” Mr. Prakash said.
