The Students Federation of India (SFI) has announced protests at universities helmed by Vice-Chancellors appointed by the Kerala Governor against alleged attempts to “saffronise” the higher education sector.
Addressing mediapersons here on Monday, SFI State secretary P.S. Sanjeev said demonstrations would be taken out to Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi, Calicut and Kannur Universities on Tuesday. The next phase of the protests will include marches to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University and the Kerala University of Health Sciences. The SFI is also considering extending the protests to district centres and even Raj Bhavan.
Mr. Sanjeev demanded the resignation of Kerala University Vice-Chancellor in-charge Mohanan Kunnummal in light of the ‘‘Kerala High Court judgment enabling K.S. Anil Kumar to continue as Registrar.’’ He accused the Vice-Chancellor of allegedly aligning with the Sangh Parivar agenda and acting against the interests of the university and student community.
