Panic gripped the residents of Govindashettipalya in Parappana Agrahara police station limits when parts of a skeleton were found in a roadside garbage dump on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred when pourakarmikas found parts of a skull and bones in the heap of garbage.

The police checked the CCTV camera footage in the area before zeroing in on one of the residents.

According to police, a 51-year-old resident had discarded the skeleton near a rajakaluve after a foul smell began emanating from his house. His daughter, a second-year MBBS student at a private medical college in the city, had brought the skeleton for her studies.

While the police were conducting an inquiry at the spot, the man himself arrived and admitted that he had dumped the skeleton. After verifying all details and cross-checking his claims, the police recorded his statement and issued a warning.

The skeletal remains have been handed over to the family for disposal, a police officer said.
