A 41-year-old man who was arrested by the police team probing the alleged murder of Vengoor resident Santha, 61, has been remanded in judicial custody.
Rajesh, a cook from Mannamkavala at Adimali, who was a friend of Santha, was nabbed from Marine Drive here on Wednesday (August 27, 2025) night while he was reportedly planning to flee to Bengaluru. He murdered the woman to steal her gold ornaments, police sources said.
Rajesh allegedly took Santha to an unoccupied house at Oonnukal in Kothamangalam and killed her before burying the body in a waste dumping pit on the premises of the house, some 40 km from the victim’s house at Vengoor near Perumbavoor, the police said. “Santha was aloof from her family members, and Rajesh thought that nobody would come in search of her,” a police officer said.
Santha’s body was found in a decomposed state on August 22, days after she left home after telling her family that she was going to a hospital on August 17. The body was found by the police team who searched the premises of the unoccupied house on a complaint by the house owner after suspecting a theft attempt.
