The police have launched an investigation into the death of a one-year-old child allegedly due to jaundice at Pang near Kottakkal on Friday. A controversy has erupted after the child was buried in mysterious circumstances.
The police said the body of the child would be exhumed and a post-mortem would be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Earlier, allegations had been raised against the child’s parents for denying him vaccination as well as treatment.
The parents, Nawas and Hira, are propagators of acupuncture therapy. They were reported to have not only resisted vaccination, but also campaigned against it using different platforms.
Police and Health department sources said that the child had developed jaundice around a month ago, but he received no medical care. The child developed a fever four days ago.
According to the parents, the child developed a seizure while he was sleeping after consuming milk on Friday afternoon. Soon the child died.
A case was registered at the Kadampuzha police station. The parents claimed to have ascertained the child’s death with the help of an allopathic doctor. However, Health officials said they were not aware of any medical doctor certifying the child’s death.
