Toilet Ek Prem Katha Producer Prerna Arora Justifies Choosing ‘Edgy’ Title For Akshay’s Film After Jaya Bachchan Mocks It

Veteran actress Jaya Bachchan recently made headlines for criticising Akshay Kumar’s film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha by calling it a ‘flop’ film during a conclave. In response to this now, the film’s producer, Prerna Arora expressed her disappointment saying it was hurtful to hear such remarks from someone she admires.

In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Prerna urged Jaya to review the film’s box office performance and stated, “Let me first state that I am a huge, HUGE fan of Jayaji.” She then listed some of her favourite films, saying, “I can watch Guddi, Uphaar, Abhimaan, and Mili anytime, anywhere, and feel happy about life.” Prerna expressed her disappointment by adding, “It is, therefore, very hurtful to hear her say that our film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha was a flop.” She then urged Jaya Bachchan to “check the box office figures” by saying, “our film earned a very handsome profit. It was one of the five biggest hits of 2017.”

She also mentioned her desire to show the film to Jaya Bachchan and shared the reasoning behind its title. She explained saying, “We weren’t sure about the title at first. It seemed risky to have the word ‘toilet’ in the title, especially before ‘A Love Story.’ But eventually, we settled on the edgy title. As a producer, I have taken risks.”

Jaya Bachchan’s comments on the film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha have recently faced backlash. In an old video that went viral, she is seen reacting to the film, saying, “What is the title? Toilet: Ek Prem Katha? What is that title? I would never watch a film with such a title.” She also questioned whether the audience would be willing to watch a film with such a name, adding, “Among so many people, hardly four people want to watch the film; it’s very sad. Yeh toh flop hai (It is a flop).”

Her remarks drew criticism for being rude. Meanwhile, netizens have started comparing her comment to Bill Gates’ old post praising the movie and sparking laughter over the contrasting opinions.
